Dawson House Office Development
Jackson Architects initiated this 3,119m2 project as a solution to an RFP by the NZ Government Project Management Centre of Expertise. The brief was for a large floor plate building to allow flexible use and shared spaces between multiple government agencies. A former industrial site on the New Plymouth CBD fringe was redeveloped on a fast track ‘ECI’ basis, by bringing together the owner/developer, contractor and consultant teams. The building is an efficient, two storied solution, with vertical panels of modelled concrete and glass. The central stair core is lit from above and also acts as a ventilation device. Extensive sunshading on the northern facade reduces solar gain and enables savings in the mechanical plant.
